Christian role

Reverend David Chillingworth rehearses the liberals’ mantra that Jesus spent time with people who didn’t fit the conventional patterns and were deemed unacceptable by others (“A secular state should be prepared to defend religious freedom”, 13 October).

Jesus did so but he did not affirm their lifestyles. He called them to his.

The early Christian Church was based on his high standards and, without them, it would not have survived in the ancient world.

As the Christian Church has departed from Jesus’ teaching in Western liberal society, so it has declined in spiritual power and effectiveness.

It is committed Christians who are the marginalised today.

They are discriminated against in some occupations, in adoption laws and in providing certain services.

The Christian conscience was the light of the world for centuries. It has been replaced by homosexual ideology reflective of a very small minority. This fails the first test of equality. It does not and cannot apply universally to everyone.

Homosexual ideology demands that the meaning of language has to change.

It demands that normality be subsumed under abnormality. It demands that exception become normative. It requires abandonment of common sense and reason.

It offers dishonest “equalities” and new false absolutes.

Your readers need to be aware that the Christian evangelist Harold Camping has returned to the fray, having overcome the disappointment of his unfulfilled prediction that the world would end this year on 21 May.

Camping now says that the world will end this Friday, 21 October.

On the minus side, we are all going to miss the Rugby World Cup final, but I suppose the End Times is like that.

On the plus side, we will be spared any further rantings in your newspaper from Christians about gay marriage.
