China questions

North-east Scotland has a special interest in the First Minister’s trade mission to China this week (your report, 23 July).

Hopefully Nicola Sturgeon will be discussing with the Chinese government a crucial matter of mutual interest: this is the future of the North Sea, as the Chinese are the sixth largest producer of oil.

Moreover, the strategy of the Chinese is critical as their oil is the benchmark for pricing worldwide.

Will a discussion of China’s view of world oil prices be on the trade mission’s agenda?

Arguably, oil economists don’t all agreed on whether China would welcome a substantial increase in global oil prices.
