Childcare reality

First Minister Alex Salmond has repeated his call for childcare to be transformed (your report, 30 December).

This remains meaningless unless a lot of taxpayers’ money is set aside for the training and salaries of carers/educationalists to an agreed national standard, and for suitable premises maintained to a high standard consistently across all regions.

And whence come these “childcarers” – surely not immigrant Romanians and Bulgarians with limited English! Answers are needed now.
