So, the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) has dropped the W from its name in order to attract more male volunteers (your report, 20 May).

It’s a pity the charity hasn’t also dropped the “R” so as to appeal to those who want an elected head of state, rather than an unelected monarch.
