Changes ahead at venison farm

FOLLOWING the article in last week’s Scotland on Sunday titled “EU cash anomaly costs venison farm dear” about our deer farm and venison business, we are anxious to reassure people who may have been left with the impression that we are closing down. This is far from the case. Reediehill Deer Farm will continue, with an increased breeding herd replacing our finishing herd, and we are already seeking to purchase red deer for breeding this autumn and winter.

Fletchers of Auchtermuchty – our venison business – has been a victim of its own success. It has outgrown our little farm, and this, coupled with a very difficult time in the snow last Christmas, has made us realise that it would operate better if it moved down the hill. Vikki Banks, our manager for the past two years, is planning to purchase the business from us some time in the new year. We hope our customers will continue to enjoy the same products and the same quality of service by mail order, through farmers’ markets and from our farm shop for many years to come.
