CBI banks silence

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney’s condemnation of certain bankers’ practices (your report, 18 November) should be considered in the context of the then FSA chairman Lord Adair Turner’s description in 2009 of many of their activities as
“socially useless”.

As well as dismay that five years on they are still at it, many might query why the CBI et al, who actually make the
products and provide the
services we all need every day, and who also suffer from such City behaviour, have not themselves been far more
outspoken in demanding a
thorough cleansing of these Augean stables.
