Careful search

Robert Finlay (Letters, 9
October) asks why the police urged members of the public not to help in the search for April Jones.

Perhaps I’ve watched too many detective dramas, but it seems to me that crime scenes are more likely to be contaminated by well-meaning volunteers than experts who know what they are doing.

And surely with a situation this heartbreaking and sensitive, we would want the prosecution’s case to be
air-tight in order to secure the conviction of the person responsible.
