Care home costs

In Belgrave Road, Corstorphine, Edinburgh, there is already one care home of three floors, behind a wall and on the downhill side of the road. The roof line is similar to other
houses on the road. A proposed new care home of four storeys is on a corner and, on a ground space equal to one block of the surrounding semi-detached two-storey houses.

It will occupy almost the total area to the pavement margins, and will be an obtrusive
carbuncle.

The plans include café, cinema, library, salon and exercise room.

Belgrave Road, and the adjacent streets, are already notorious for problems with parked cars and the home will make things worse, with only six parking places.

It will be difficult for visitors. The 70 staff are expected to walk to work.

Large delivery vehicles and waste removal trucks servicing care home operations will further impair the environment for local residents.

At least one person has become a millionaire through care homes. A Scottish Government proposal, that all workers be paid a living wage, caused one care home owner to say he would close the home and sell up.
