Capital's paths

You report on a campaign by Scottish National Heritage to encourage people in Scotland's three largest cities to spend more time outdoors (21 July).

The Roseburn and Telford paths in Edinburgh are heavily used by all sorts of people doing just that - some cycling to work, family parties on bikes, runners, young mums pushing baby buggies, people of all ages out for a stroll.

You can even pick brambles along them. They provide a habitat for many birds and are an important part of Edinburgh's fine network of paths. They form a linear park serving a number of diverse areas.

Would this not be a good time for the City Council to announce that the plan to build tram tracks along them has been dropped and that they will be reserved for non-vehicular use for the foreseeable future?
