Capital mayor

Let us take the opportunity provided by the inspiration of The Scotsman Conference, "Edinburgh: The Next Five Years", to make Edinburgh an international role model in its own right. The suggestion that Edinburgh should become the location for an international summit to embrace and lead structural change in banking/financial systems would be a great start and certainly an achievable one. Moreover, it would greatly benefit a wide sector of the Edinburgh community.

Edinburgh currently has an abundance of strategic organisations and talking shops, all serving a worthwhile purpose, but which are not particularly well co-ordinated. A directly elected mayor of Edinburgh could provide inspired leadership to delegate and/or become the final point of referral for strategic Edinburgh issues.

However, this would undoubtedly alienate existing organisations, probably not be viewed as democratic and certainly would take very many years to implement, if at all.
