Cameron boxes clever with SNP

I FIND it hard to know how to interpret the new Prime Minister's decision to allow an SNP member to represent the UK in Europe (News, 23 May).

Can it be that David Cameron is running so scared of the Tories' collapse in Scotland that he feels the need to appease the wildly popular Alex Salmond.

Or perhaps he is showing far more Machiavellian guile. Once they have accepted his largesse, how can the Nationalists continue to whine about Westminster's domination of Scotland which fails to take account of our special needs, when one of their own is striking deals in Brussels in Scotland's interest which will take no account of the needs of most of the UK?
