Cameron backfire

Remembering the last time Scotland bid for independence, I remember well how the Westminster government applied all the scare tactics it could muster to deter the Scottish people.

The unionist parties carry out the policies dictated to them by their Westminster masters, none of which serve Scotland well. This latest attempt to dictate referendum policies on us (your report, 9 January) will only backfire and cause more Yes votes to be made. And this time may prove to be very different, in that the more they interfere the more Yes votes they will create.

The Scottish people need improvement in their lives, none of the “Unionists” can deliver that. With independence, we have our own choices and we will make or break on these. We are not a hopeless people, we are strong-minded and determined by nature, we should look forward with confidence.

Finally, I realise this as I watch Prime Minister David Cameron trying to justify the horrendous costs of the 2012 Olympic Games, by saying that it will leave a lasting legacy. Yes, possibly for London; certainly not for Scotland, where the government does not even want to help fund the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

We have a very unequal partnership that does not work any more, (if it ever really did).
