Bum note

Your report of the Bafta Awards in London, with 58 column inches of photographs on pages one and 11 plus 12 of narrative, contrasts with your relegation of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Final in Edinburgh to an easily-missed 4in on page two with no photographs (albeit followed by Ken Walton’s all-too-brief review on page 31).

One recalls the 2004 final when Nicola Benedetti became the first Scot to win the competition, also in the Usher Hall, and then First Minister Jack McConnell took several days to congratulate her personally (and only after public criticism). However, the previous year, he had been quick to support singer Michelle McManus when she won the television show Pop Idol.
