Broadcast health

Your headline on the TV working group (27 August) report could hardly have been more wrong. Far from needing propped up by public money the industry is surviving and even growing on its own, but not as quickly as it could.

What our report said is that there is now an opportunity for exponential growth, but it needs better co-ordination of supply and demand and a short, sharp public intervention to seize the moment. And we said, if we don't seize the moment, others will.

Significant BBC money is moving to Scotland. Channel 4 is following slowly. We have the chance now to build companies of scale which reflect Scotland on screen to the UK and beyond.
