Britain needs Trident

The moral argument against Trident was lost on the day nuclear weapons were invented. It would have been better had that not happened, but they exist and we have no alternative but to defend ourselves against them.

This can only be done by demonstrating we have the capability to respond in kind if subjected to nuclear attack, thus making it a no-win situation for an aggressor. This deterrent has kept us safe through many years.

Some may argue that following the demise of the Soviet Union a nuclear threat no longer exists. But how can they know? Some of the states that have nuclear weapons can hardly be described as politically stable or well disposed towards the West. It would be an act of madness to deprive ourselves of the only defence possible.
