BP under siege

Intemperate attacks on BP and its chief executive (Opinion, 19 June) play into the hands of China. Clearly China is more important for the US in terms of global trade, finance and power relations in foreign policy, compared with the "special relationship" with the UK.

It would make strategic sense if China were to become a global oil player by snapping up BP at a knock-down price.
