Boycott DIY tills

With large supermarkets being made aware of how important the customer service experience is in recent times, perhaps it is now time to reevaluate the common bugbear of customers: the self-service scan checkout.

On Saturday I went to a large supermarket chain for a few top-up items and made the mistake of using the self-service checkout. Never again!

For six items it took more than 15 minutes as there were repeated errors with the system – wrong weight for bag etc. One person was assisting eight checkout points that all had issues at the same time. And I would say to people who feel the same, the answer is simple: boycott these tills and write to the management at the supermarket and get them to increase proper checkout facilities.

This is a cost-cutting measure and it is causing inconvenience to customers who will eventually take their custom elsewhere.

Supermarkets will now do anything to increase profits. The budget supermarkets do not have them and they are seeing a large increase in customers as the large supermarkets have seen to their cost. These self-scan checkouts should come with a health warning for those who suffer with high blood pressure.
