WILLIAM MacFarlane (Letters, 8 September), must be in need of a short lesson in map-reading if he cannot locate the fringe venues of his choice, which might have been easily achieved with the help of the admirable map and guide published every day by The Scotsman.

Nor can I understand his difficulty with our buses since the excellent No 23 service travels through Bruntsfield and the city centre at ten minute intervals and seems to reach this terminus reliably close to schedule.

However, he has had a better experience with the Fringe box office than I, perhaps because he paid a hefty telephone booking fee rather than having to stand out in the open, queuing for 30 minutes, before reaching the efficient sales staff?
