Borders rail link

I congratulate Craig Cowbrough for raising the economic folly of the Borders rail link (Comment, 22 February). He is right to criticise our leaders for abandoning the Glasgow and Edinburgh air links while continuing to support the reinstatement of the old Waverley Line to Tweedbank.

It should be obvious that both air links would be used, have potential to make money and be of benefit to large numbers of people.

The Borders rail link has little prospect of achieving any of these goals. As a holder of a free bus pass, I and most of my fellow pensioners are unlikely to stump up for a train ticket. So far, in excess of 30m has been spent with absolutely nothing to show for it.
