Borders fiasco

Sir Walter Scott may have completed his Waverley novels in less time than this Borders Rail connection takes to finish (your report, 20 September).

Frankly, given the projected passenger subsidies, when up and running it would be cheaper to pay the taxi fares of commuters and give jobs to taxi drivers instead of lawyers, PR and other consultants.

There seems to be a lack of competent project management in Scotland as evident over Edinburgh trams and now Borders Railway. Let us hope planning for the new Forth Road Bridge is better.

If we are looking to improve Scotland’s infrastructure the A9 might have more impact for the better and even employ Scottish companies in the process.
