Book space

The plans to open Charlotte Square Gardens for public events other than the Edinburgh International Book Festival (your report, 1 May) raise a number of issues.

One wonders what will happen with the book festival eventually outgrows that space. Or is the idea to keep it to a manageable size so it never has to look for new premises?

It might be a valuable event for other parts of the city – Leith, perhaps.
