Bold claims

Monday's TV news included a politician claiming he could change the country for the better. A proud boast by the new government, you might think. But no; it was one of the Miliband contenders for the leadership of the Labour Party claiming the credentials.

By my calculation, we've had about a week and a half of the new government, so why didn't we see this claim being acted out by the last government? I'm confused.
