Bodies of opinion

My thanks to Tim Flinn and Stephen Moreton for their
contributions to questions I posed on how overpopulation could be controlled (Letters, 22 June).

Unfortunately, all of their arguments and proposals have already been implemented in some way and have been found to be wanting, not least when one considers the impact on pension provision, health care, skills and the economy.

Indeed, many countries, having identified declining fertility rates as the cause of such problems, are unable to apply the brakes, sending population numbers into freefall.
