Bird picture

Frank Urquhart’s article about the gamekeepers’ society (5 July) was quite fair. However, the juxtapositioning of the much-used photograph of a dead bird of prey beside a photograph of someone ejecting recently fired shotgun cartridge cases, over the caption, “Gamekeepers have been involved in a survey on eagles”, is absolutely disgraceful.

It is an open incitement to stir up hate against hard working men and women who are doing a difficult job in the countryside that most urban people know little of.

The Scotsman should disassociate itself from that article immediately and apologise to the gamekeepers.
