Bike riders’ world cup overlooked

EVERY reader of Scotland on Sunday was given an official programme on 1 June for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup which was taking place on 7 and 8 June at Fort William.

The programme featured adult as well as junior riders.

Last Sunday there was one article in Scotland on Sunday and it only featured one rider and he was from Australia. There was no mention of the other UK and Scottish riders who did well in the qualifying rounds in very difficult conditions and on a very challenging course and who have also done well on the international circuit.

Surely this was a missed opportunity to publicise and encourage younger riders as well as the Elite Adult Class. There were thousands of supporters at Fort William and I am sure some would have appreciated a fuller report. They also contributed thousands to the economy of the Lochaber area.

Not everyone is interested in a World Cup happening elsewhere which Scotland on Sunday seemed to major on. In this year when we have the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup in Scotland more could have been done to showcase this World Cup event which has an ever increasing, enthusiastic following.
