Best comedy act

Given that festival season is upon us, one of the funniest shows in town is an act called City of Edinburgh Council. Here is a taste: diversion signs are put up in an area for roadworks. One day these signs are defaced with spray paint. These signs are on lampposts and pavements. The person who defaced them must have had a ladder or cherry picker.

Ask the council for an explanation and here is the punchline: “We do this so the motorist knows the diversion signs are void.”

Motorist: “Why don’t you just remove the signs when you have men defacing them?”

Council: “That is the job of another department with a lorry.”

Excellent. The delivery was done seriously as befits any good comedy act and it certainly made me laugh. Unlike the festivals, however, this show runs all year from venues all over the city.
