Ben Edetti

Yesterday was the birthday of one of Scotland’s most successful and most respected role models for young people, yet there is no mention in your Birthdays column. Shame on you.

It leads me to propose a new system of honours for Scotland, which would be rooted in our culture.

For someone who has reached a pinnacle of achievement, what better way to honour them than by naming one of our mountains after them?

There could be four grades of honour, Donald, Grahams, Corbetts and Munros, with the top dozen over 4,000 feet for the highest achievers.

To this end, I propose we name one of our top Munros after a young Scottish icon, whose birthday you neglected, to be known as Ben Edetti.
