How pleasing to see a more pragmatic approach to NHS problem-solving in Scotland, with the use of the private sector in reducing waiting times in some areas (your report, 5 June) – this from a government which previously abhorred the use of non-state health provision.

Trying to solve the ever-
increasing health burden by only using the state sector is like 
trying to play golf with only one club.
