Behind bars

Clark Cross’s ridiculous and ignorant letter (28 January) about women in prison annoyed me.

He suggests that the Scottish Government’s decision not to go ahead with a women’s super-prison proves that women are treated more favourably than men.

Mr Cross: most women are not in prison for violent offences and, as Joe Neilson (Scotsman.com view) points out, “behaviour that lands them there is related to mental health issues and usually has its roots in male abuse”.
