Beef’s gift horse

What more vindication do beef farmers need for investing in the Scotch Beef label (your report, 11 February)?

Whoever is calling for the Scottish Government to do more over the horse meat scandal is, I suspect,
deliberately avoiding the facts.

The Cabinet secretary for rural affairs and the environment, Richard Lochhead, the Scottish Government and our beef producers have invested considerable sums annually to ensure that Scottish beef has the most robust security measures in place to maintain its integrity in the face of product on sale with lesser guarantee.

Why beef farmers are supposedly angry and frustrated puzzles me when, after years of investment, they are now at last rewarded for their efforts as they look this gift horse in the mouth.
