BBC misjudgment

I was shocked to find out from Lesley Riddoch’s article (Perspective, 2 June) that Gary Robertson’s contract with the BBC is not being renewed.

In the past fortnight I have heard him carry out two superb interviews. When the newly elected Ukip MEP claimed EU regulation was killing Scottish business Gary quietly but persistently asked him to specify one such regulation and reduced the hapless David Coburn to a
gibbering wreck.

Similarly, when finance secretary John Swinney claimed that the UK government’s estimate of the setting up costs of an independent Scottish Government was excessive, Gary asked him 11 times for his own estimate, without getting a straight answer.

It is disgraceful that someone who can challenge politicians so effectively without resorting to rudeness or excessive interruption has been told his services are no longer required.

The BBC must think again about this decision.
