BBC heads south

How interesting was the media coverage of the temporary closure of Edinburgh Airport following the discovery of a suspicious bag.

The news item merited a front-page photograph in The Scotsman (8 January), together with a near full-page report.

The BBC’s news coverage was somewhat different. There was no mention of the closure of Scotland’s busiest airport on the main news at 10pm (7 January), while even the regional (ie Scottish) news which followed relegated the item to fifth place.

One wonders how the BBC would have dealt with the closure, in similar circumstances, of any one of the terminals at Heathrow Airport.
