OK, I give up. I have puzzled all morning over Robert Dow’s letter (18 September) regarding the BBC treatment of England’s World Cup qualification (incidentally the newscast I watched mentioned all the home Union matches).

Which other member of the Union won and might also qualify?
It obviously could not be Scotland, who were the first team in Europe to have no chance of qualification with several matches still to be played.
