Banking dilemma

I READ with great interest your article ( 10 March) regarding the proposed purchase of 600 branches of Lloyds Banking Group, by the Co-operative Bank. It would appear, that the Financial Services Authority, is concerned by the make-up and lack of “banking experts” on the Co-operative board, and wishes to see that body strengthened.

We must assume, that it considered the Lloyds board, which sanctioned the purchase of HBOS in the first place; to be “banking experts”.

While I can follow the Financial Service Authority’s concerns to a degree, which of the two banks is on the “up” and which is on its “uppers”?
