Banker's advice

I am sure that like many other people I wonder how Andy Hornby has the nerve to offer advice about the recession (Business, 19 May).

If the quotes that you include in the report are considered the best, we haven't exactly learned anything.

With reference to the possibilities for the economy he said that "it really could go either way". Talk about hedging your bets.

I am sure it will be of great consolation to all those who are out of work, particularly as a result of his contribution to the downfall of the Bank of Scotland, to hear from him that, in his opinion, "unemployment had peaked lower in the latest recession than in the 1970s and 1980s recessions". I have a personal axe to grind where Mr Hornby is concerned as my late grandfather and uncle both worked for what was once a proud institution, The Bank of Scotland, until people like Hornby got their hands on it.

Every time I see a picture of his smug, arrogant face, I will pin it to a wall and practise my darts.
