Bank on success

My namesake in Edinburgh (Letters, 15 September) would be ashamed to vote No, and reminds us of the trillions of debt accumulated by the British Government.

Perhaps he needs reminding that it was accumulated mostly by bailing out the Scottish
banks.

Perhaps he could advise us how a standalone Scotland would be able to cope with a similar scale of debt.

Could it be that we would be joining the arc of prosperity which Alex Salmond recommended we join, which, I recall, included Iceland and Ireland. How have they coped with the recession?

The British economy is well on the path to recovery and indeed is already one of the strongest of the European
countries many of which are
still suffering within the eurozone.
