Bad medicine

So Gordon Brown warns against independence because the Union has resulted in Scottish pensioners having lower incomes than their English counterparts (Letters, 23 April) and so the former will need more state subsidies.

When I was a practising doctor we found that if the medicine was harming the patient we didn’t suggest more of the same.
