Austerity threat

John Wilson MSP SNP (your report, 28 May) stated that staying in the UK guarantees (no less) that increased austerity will follow. Why does he think that we would be immune from austerity measures if we go separate?

Our deficit finances are, frankly, a tad wobbly and Alex Salmond’s belief that we can grow the economy to overcome the burgeoning public expenditures is plain unsound.

Mr Wilson also throws up an old accusation by implying Westminster for decades deprived us of investment. It is not the job of government to use public money to prop up any enterprises.

Mr Wilson should tell us what he would do to get specifically Scottish companies established to support long-term jobs.
