As ye sow...

Before Campbell Deane (19 January) leaps to the defence of Sir Iqbal Sacranie, he should recall what Sir Iqbal said when Robert Kilroy-Silk exercised his right to freedom of speech in the Daily Express two years ago.

In a press release issued by the Muslim Council of Britain on 12 January, 2004, Sir Iqbal said of Mr Kilroy-Silk's anti-Arab rant in the newspaper: "The issue is not about the freedom of speech - which we all must value and cherish - it is about abusing freedom of speech to vilify and demonise an entire group of peoples."

Quite. As ye sow, ye shall reap.

Incidentally, Sir Iqbal also demanded that Mr Kilroy-Silk be removed from his job at the BBC, which duly occurred. Will there be a new secretary-general of the MCB shortly?
