Armed police

Spotted in Waitrose,
Comely Bank, Edinburgh last Saturday morning: a police officer – possibly from nearby Fettes HQ – wearing some kind of protective vest and a holster containing what looked like a handgun. He’d come in to buy a pie.

I don’t know if this constable was on duty or off duty, or on his way to a “major incident”, but if our new national police force is at all interested in creating an approachable and reassuring image, casual appearances in this kind of military rig-out don’t do a lot to help.
