Appeals fee mess

Is Douglas Mayer (Letters, 2 February) really saying that, in a year when they managed to
under-spend nearly £500,000, the SNP government could think of no way of avoiding this fee for appeals, which unfairly puts state school pupils at a disadvantage?

It is not as if this was an isolated incident: this is a government whose sole taxation commitment is to reduce corporation tax, and takes pride in freezing council tax so that those in the top bands have reason to be grateful.

But whatever this is, it is not
social democracy.
