Ageing argument
As Jim Gallacher writes (Perspective, 5 September), Scotland’s population is ageing. Such demographic problems are shared with many other countries. It is not an argument against independence.
The late Oliver Brown wrote that Scotland is the best country in the world to be born in and to die in, the problem being to find somewhere in which to spend the intervening years.
With independence, and Scottish control of all of Scotland’s assets and resources, it seems fair to assume that more of our young people will choose and be able to spend their lives in Scotland and in the process add to the wealth we need to support our elderly and others in need.
