If SPECIAL advisor Adam Smith was allowed free rein, apparently unsupervised by Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt – which smacks of incompetence, not to mention negligence on Hunt’s part – to handle all or most of the communications and meetings with News Corporation regarding its BSkyB bid (your report, 12 May) , why is Smith not being called to give evidence under oath before Lord Justice Leveson?

It would seem that young men with the Christian name Adam – Smith and Werritty – who become involved with Secretaries of State vanish and are never heard of publicly again.
