Adoption move?

You are right to welcome the latest, conciliatory pronouncements of Pope Francis on homosexuality (Leader, 30 July).

It is to be hoped his statement that gay people must not be discriminated against will be noted by his Church and its leaders in Scotland, and the St Margaret’s adoption agency, and that the latter will henceforth obey the law of Scotland by ceasing to discriminate against gay people in the selection of potential parents for children requiring adoption.

As one who has long described himself on diverse forms as a “Presbyterian Atheist”, I welcome his pronouncement.

While on the subject of form-filling, may I say why I decline to give my mother’s maiden name.

This was a ploy designed by institutes of higher education to deny access to applicants of the Hebrew persuasion in the southern states of the United States.
