Accent clash

Derek McClure is rather harsh in his humourless castigation of Erikka Askeland over her use of the term “British English”
instead of “Scottish English”
(Letters, 6 May).

As a Torontonian living in
Edinburgh, I have discovered that most Scottish inhabitants seem to be similarly unaware of the clear distinction between Canadian Engish and American English.

Touché, as they say in Canadian French.
