Abuse inquiry

Chris Marshall’s call for an inquiry (Inside Justice, 16 July) into not only child abuse in Scotland, but into the even more serious seeming conspiracy to cover it up is timely. However, bearing in mind Dunblane et al, the public’s perception of the thoroughness of such public inquiries conducted by men euphemistically described as “establishment” figures is not high.

Does Scotland have a woman with the knowledge, experience and strength of character to take on this formidable task?

It is a task that will be opposed and obstructed at every turn and which will undoubtedly cut across many of the political and tribal loyalties which usually dominate in Scotland.
