2014 challenge

The athletics events at both Olympics were an undoubted success. However, I suspect that many spectators in the magnificent stadium will have felt short changed with many of the key events, plus all the prize-giving ceremonies, taking place in front of the VIP and press seats only.

While it is recognised that an athletics stadium also has to be used for field events, is it too much to hope that the organisers of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will come up with a revolutionary or visionary stadium design or plan which will mean that the key running events and all prize-giving take place in the centre of the stadium to the benefit of all spectators?

After all, what other sport is held in a stadium where only a privileged few are able to enjoy the sport in its entirety while the majority are either peering at distant figures or having to resort to a TV screen?
