The Scotsman cartoon: SSE price freeze and job cuts
Power supplier SSE yesterday said it was freezing household energy prices until “at least” January 2016.
The Perth-based group unveiled plans to trim £100 million off its annual cost base within the next two years. SSE said the cost-cutting exercise would lead to about 500 job losses around Britain, although it was aiming to avoid compulsory redundancies.
SSE, which is due to announce its annual results in May, expects to have a total headcount across Britain and Ireland of more than 20,000 by the end of its next financial year.
