NICOLA Sturgeon is to replace Alex Salmond as SNP leader and First Minister after it was confirmed that she is the only candidate for the post.

Ms Sturgeon will be formally confirmed as SNP leader at the party’s conference in Perth on 14 November. She is expected to be formally confirmed as First Minister in a vote at Holyrood some time after the conference.
