TWO separate but connected hostage stand-offs just outside Paris were brought to an end by French commandos last night. The total number of deaths, including three of the gunmen, has now reached 20 since the offices of Charlie Hebdo were attacked on Wednesday morning.

One of the hostage situations saw four civilians killed along with the guman and another 11 freed, while the sole hostage held in a warehouse in a small village north-east of the French capital was released before authorities shot the terrorists dead.

Police remain on the hunt for the girlfriend of the supermarket gunman, who is wanted in connection with the murder of a trainee policewoman on Thursday morning. It is unclear whether or not she had anything to do with the supermarket seige.
